ARTWORK - Anime/Manga-Style Illustrations

Start to Draw Manga Tutorial

Derwent START pencils
A3

This was a sample piece for display at the Artists' & Illustrators' Magazine 2005 Exhibition for Derwent Pencils using their START range on the Gadsby's stand.

For this picture I decided to draw the entire piece using the pencils just to show what it would look like. Instead of A4 Layout paper that I usually use, this was drawn on A3 cartridge paper for display purposes. (Hence the creamy colour of the background!)
If trying out a manga comic-strip for yourself, I would suggest to outline in pen and use the pencils for tone, if you are using pencils. I also drew the text in pencil, but normally I would do this part on the computer to give a clearer and precise effect.

BTW - After I had drawn this I noticed that my 'Manga Mania' character seemed to have an uncanny resemblance to a Muppet!
