About
Background
I am an artist based in Surrey, UK. Originally from Derbyshire, I lived in Scotland for some time, where studied Art and Design at Falkirk College of Technology. After leaving college I worked as a designer dressmaker, mainly making theatrical and Cosplay costumes, as well as bespoke accessories and designer wear. When I moved the South East, I decided to go back to college and received a ‘Distinction’ in Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the Reigate School of Art, Surrey, followed by a BA (Hons) degree in Theatre Studies (Design) at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London.
Inspiration
This comes from various angles! My main influences are anything to do with early to mid 20th century history and style; fantasy and science fiction; and the living world and the cosmos. See, I told you I had eclectic tastes!
With the vintage style and fantasy influences, I gravitated towards costumes and cosplay. So much so, that I did a degree in it! I have equally been drawn to the natural world and astronomy, which often slips into my work when I’m not looking. Conservation and the need to help my environment, coupled with my creative nature, has always inspired me to make things from old. These days it has it’s own name: upcycling. Like many crafters, I have stacks of fabrics, yarn, paper and art materials, ready for when the creative urge arises.
Currently, I am working on some vintage style bag patterns; accessories; upcycling projects; applique pictures and many more.
